Crop a photo freely or to an exact aspect ratio

Frame the part of the photo you want to keep and discard everything outside the box. Unlike quick edits that leave a hidden preview behind, only the cropped pixels are written to the new file.

How to use it

  1. Choose a photo from your phone or computer.
  2. Select Free or lock an aspect ratio: 1:1 square, 4:5 portrait, 3:2 classic, 16:9 widescreen or 9:16 vertical.
  3. Drag inside the box to reposition, or drag any corner to tighten the frame.
  4. Tap "Save crop" to download the clean cropped image.

Why privacy cropping matters: the EXIF thumbnail trap

Camera JPEGs store a tiny secondary preview image inside their EXIF header, and poorly written editors have even left trailing uncropped bytes at the end of saved files. When you crop out a street sign, badge or bystander here, the browser builds a brand-new file from just the kept pixels, with zero metadata or preview thumbnails.

Crop versus resize

Cropping trims away edges at 1:1 pixel sharpness without scaling what remains. Resizing keeps the entire scene and scales every pixel down or up to hit a specific width and height.

FAQ

Questions

Are my photos uploaded anywhere?

No. The page reads your file in this browser tab and does the work on your device. Nothing is sent to a server, and closing the tab clears it. You can switch on airplane mode after the page loads and the tool still works.

Can anyone recover the cropped-out edges of the photo?

No. Pixels outside your crop box are never written into the downloaded file, and all EXIF thumbnails and metadata segments are omitted.

Does cropping reduce photo quality?

Cropping keeps the original pixel resolution inside the selected region. Saving as PNG preserves every kept pixel losslessly; saving as JPEG or WebP applies standard compression at your chosen quality.

How do I crop to exact pixel dimensions like 800 x 800?

First crop here using the matching aspect ratio (such as 1:1 for a square), then open the Image Resizer to set the exact 800 x 800 pixel dimensions.
